Hennerici looking for Home Race success at Sachsenring

This weekend the Marc VDS Racing Team head for the Sachsenring circuit in Germany and the fourth round of what is proving to be a hotly contested 2011 GT1 World Championship.

This will be the first ever visit to Sachsenring by the GT1 World Championship and, while many of the drivers have no experience of the tight and technical circuit, the same is not true of the Marc VDS Racing Team´s Marc Hennerici who, once again, will drive alongside Bas Leinders in the #40 Ford GT this weekend.

Hennerici celebrated his 29th birthday earlier this week and is keen to mark it in style with a strong showing this weekend at Sachsenring. The Marc VDS driver will face stiff competition, however, as the other eight German drivers in the championship will all be looking to impress in front of their home crowd.

Located in the hills around Hohenstein-Ernstthal, close to the city of Chemnitz, the 3,671 km Sachsenring circuit is one of the shortest on the GT1 World Championship calendar. The first half of the circuit is tight and technical, demanding a well-balanced car with good acceleration out of the turns. The second half is much faster, necessitating high downforce to allow the drivers to carry maximum speed through the turns.

Marc Hennerici: Ford GT #40

“In Portimao we made good progress with the development and set up of the car, which will be important for Sachsenring. I´m definitely looking forward to the weekend ahead, as a driver your home race is always a little bit special. Sachsenring is a fun circuit to drive; most of our rivals won´t know the circuit at all, but I raced there in 2008 and 2009, so maybe we will have a little bit of an advantage this weekend. Qualifying near the front of the grid is always important, but even more so at Sachsenring, where the first turn is very tight. Hopefully we´ll have a good weekend, secure two strong results and give our German fans something to celebrate.”
